The chief minister of India's northeastern state of Manipur apologised on Tuesday for months of ethnic unrest that has killed at least 250 people and prompted criticism of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's federal government.

The ADR released a list of total assets of 31 chief ministers which are worth Rs 1,630 crores. Out of the 31 chief ministers, only two are women - West Bengal's Mamata Banerjee and Delhi's Atishi.

Following Naidu, Arunachal Pradesh’s Pema Khandu is the second wealthiest chief minister, declaring assets worth over Rs 332 crore. Karnataka’s Siddaramaiah ranks third, with assets valued at more than Rs 51 crore.

Biren Singh, who has come under fire from the opposition over his handling of the violence, emphasised that peace was being restored in Manipur and hoped for restoration of normalcy in 2025.
