Two schools have been closed in Devon amid a warning of snow. Stansfield Academy and Hennock Primary School have been closed for the day, said Devon County Council. A yellow warning for snow in some southern counties of England including Devon and Cornwall came into force at 09:00 GMT, and will last until 00:00 GMT on Thursday.

A rare amber warning for snow has been issued across Devon and Cornwall with immediate effect. Snow has fallen across large parts of the region, including Dartmoor, forcing some schools to close and road restrictions on the A38 motorway. A yellow weather warning was already in place for the South West but the Met Office has since upgraded this.

A fresh weather warning for snow has been issued for parts of Essex this afternoon (January 8). There have been weather warnings across the UK from the Met Office for the past few days, with the latest predicting that snow and sleet will hit parts of Essex overnight.
