Monday Morning Maui Sports: Matsuyama breaks PGA Tour scoring record at Kapalua
KAPALUA — Japanese golfer Hideki Matsuyama bettered all those who came before him in The Sentry — and everywhere else in a traditional four-round event — with a PGA Tour-record 35-under-par run to the championship on Sunday at the Plantation Course at Kapalua, a place that produces record scores like nowhere else on Earth.
Matsuyama wins The Sentry on Maui; breaks PGA’s scoring record
Matsuyama finished at 35-under 257, the lowest 72-hole score to par in PGA Tour history. It was good for a three-stroke victory over runner-up Collin Morikawa, who shot 67. Matsuyama birdied the final hole, a par-5, to reach 35 under.
