King Abdullah of Jordan headed to the hospital for surgery just days after his new granddaughter, Amina, was born.

AMMAN (Reuters) - Jordan's King Abdullah will undergo minor surgery on Tuesday, the royal palace said in a statement. The 63-year-old monarch will be treated for an incisional hernia at the country's King Hussein Medical City. The palace did not say how long he will be in hospital for.

The statement said the monarch was discharged from the King Hussein Medical Center in Amman after the minor operation. “He will resume his daily schedule tomorrow,” it added.

Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa arrived in Jordan on Wednesday, his third foreign visit since taking office, while Israeli airstrikes targeted military positions in Syria.

Syria's leader Ahmad Al Shara and Jordan's King Abdullah agreed on Wednesday to work on improving border security, the royal palace said, addressing a long-running problem that has affected trade and the movement of people between the two countries.
