The downtown Los Angeles curfew is still in effect more than a week after ICE protests began. Laurie Perez reports.

The city recommends carrying proof of residence or employment for anyone planning to enter or depart the curfew area after 8 p.m.

By late morning it was clear, June 6 was no ordinary Friday in LA. Federal agents arrested people in and around downtown Los Angeles. Some day laborers near a Home Depot in Westlake, others working in the Fashion District at Ambience apparel.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom on Tuesday requested a federal judge issue a temporary restraining order—and asked it be issued by 4 p.m. EDT— blocking President Donald Trump from deploying the National Guard and Marines to Los Angeles where anti-immigration protests have ensued in recent days.

“Multiple groups continue to congregate on 1st St between Spring and Alameda. Those groups are being addressed and mass arrests are being initiated. Curfew is in effect,” read a post on the LAPD’s social media, sent at 9:09p.m local time on Tuesday night.

Marines have moved into Los Angeles to guard a federal building after a week of protests against immigration raids, while communities across the country are preparing for demonstrations against President Donald Trump’s polices this weekend.
