Los Angeles Dodgers infielder Max Muncy is among the players who gave the new torpedo bat a try after the New York Yankees’ initial success with it. For Muncy, however, the verdict was clear: he quickly went back to his old bat.

MIT physicist Aaron Leanhardt has been credited with creating the torpedo bats. Leanhardt previously served as a hitting analyst with the Yankees before he joined the Miami Marlins as a field coordinator in the offseason.

While Aaron Judge rocked three homers using his normal bat, a number of Yankees opted for the Torpedo bat, which was designed in part by former Massachusetts Institute of Technology physicist Aaron Leanhardt and are notable for being densest at the barrel, or the "sweet spot" of the bat.

In an interview with The New York Times, Manfred also forecasted fans getting more access to game broadcasts after the 2028 season.

Torpedo bats are all the rage this season, and Major League Baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred believes all that chatter is positive for the sport. "They're absolutely good for baseball," Manfred said in a Q&A published by The New York Times on Sunday.
