The Toronto Maple Leafs are one of the top teams in the NHL and insider Elliotte Friedman says they'd do a lot to acquire Mikko Rantanen.

NHL insider Darren Dreger recently said that the Toronto Maple Leafs are in line to make a big trade before the deadline to boost their playoff chances.

That changed on Saturday as The Fourth Period's David Pagnotta reported that Tavares and the Maple Leafs have agreed to a contract extension for the Mississauga native to stay put in Toronto. While not yet officially announced pending "some finetuning," the deal is believed to be for three years at an average annual value of around $7 million.
