Alabama voters are deciding who will represent a congressional district redrawn after a lengthy redistricting battle

Shomari Figures, the Black Democrat running in an Alabama congressional district redrawn last year by a court order, has won the seat over Republican Caroleene Dobson, NBC News projects.

At least three Alabama sites were experiencing problems with voting Tuesday morning, election officials and a civil rights organization said.

Donald Trump (R) won Alabama by 25.5 points in 2020.

Democratic Rep. Terri Sewell won election to a U.S. House seat representing Alabama on Tuesday. Sewell was reelected to Alabama’s 7th Congressional District. She defeated Republican Robin Litaker. Sewell was first elected in 2010.

Of the counties with nearly complete results, more than 90 percent shifted in favor of former President Donald J. Trump in the 2024 presidential election.
