Mikaela Shiffrin failed to qualify for a second run in a giant slalom event for the first time since 2012 while competing at a World Cup race in Sestriere, Italy on Saturday, since she finished outside the top 30 skiers.

The previous race that Shiffrin completed a first run in slalom or giant slalom outside the top-30 times was in October 2012 at the season-opening GS at Soelden, Austria. Then, a 17-year-old Shiffrin wearing bib No. 41 had the 31st fastest time.

SESTRIERE, Italy — Italian skier Federica Brignone won the first World Cup giant slalom after taking gold at the world championships on Friday, while Mikaela Shiffrin finished 25th in the American’s first race in the discipline in nearly 12 weeks.
