Five-time Olympic gold medalist Sue Bird was named the first-ever managing director of the USA Basketball Women's National Team on Thursday.

Sue Bird is going for Olympic gold medal No. 6, but her first in an administrative role. Bird is expected to be named managing director for the U.S. women’s national basketball team for the upcoming Olympic cycle, The Athletic reported Tuesday.

Sue Bird is giving another assist to USA Basketball, becoming the managing director of the women's national team. “I played for USA Basketball for so long and always really enjoyed my time with them," Bird said in a phone interview with The Associated Press.
