The Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Mets, as expected, have reportedly begun their pursuit of a free agent shortstop.

The New York Mets are ready to pony up to improve their infield this winter. Baseball writer Mike Rodriguez reported Thursday that the Mets have made a seven-year, $160 million contract offer to free-agent infielder Willy Adames.

Nobody is expecting the New York Mets to be frugal this offseason. With owner Steve Cohen bolstering their budget, the Mets have led MLB in payroll each of the last two seasons. They're shedding nearly $185 million after making a run to the National League Championship Series,
