Prince William has stepped in to attend the funeral of Pope Francis on behalf of his father, King Charles, with 12 other royals from around the world.

Prince William traveled to Vatican City on Saturday, April 26 in order to attend Pope Francis's funeral. King Charles didn't attend the funeral, which brought together a plethora of world leaders. According to a royal expert, there's an important reason Charles decided to send William to the funeral in his place.

Prince William is facing a "wake-up call" for his future within the monarchy after attending Pope Francis's funeral in the Vatican City. The Prince of Wales joined more than 100 world leaders - including US President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer - to pay their respects to the late pontiff in St Peter's Square.
