Warming stations and shelters have opened in the Pine Belt to provide a place for people to escape the cold. The Salvation Army in Laurel opened its warming station, which will remain open 24 hours as long as the temperatures are near or below 32 degrees.

Inside the Salvation Army at 2215 Park Avenue in Lynchburg, warmth and relief await those who have nowhere else to go.

The Salvation Army strives to provide more than just warm shelters. “We bring joy and hope to those who may not be having that or may not feel it. We always try to give hope in every situation and share God’s love with them,” Robinson says that the shelters will be open as long as temperatures are under 39 degrees.

With temperatures reaching below freezing across the metro, the Salvation Army has opened up its 'Center of Hope' for men and women seeking shelter.

Forecasts call for a possible blast of winter weather to jolt Northwest Arkansas in the days ahead. Area organizations are gearing up to have facilities ready to provide safe, warm places for those who might otherwise literally be left out in the cold.
