Spencer Strider took a step in the right direction in his 13-strikeout, scoreless performance for the Atlanta Braves on Saturday. It was his first strong performance of the 2025 campaign, struggling in his first five starts of the season.

Strider looked like himself again, as Ronald Acuna also gave the Braves a blast to easily put down the Rockies.

The Braves have reasons to believe they are just getting started. And the two biggest ones are Acuña and Strider.

While the Braves’ series against the Rockies ended on a poor note in a 10-1 drubbing on Sunday, there were several positive developments over the weekend, none bigger than Spencer Strider’s outing on Saturday.

Strider displayed his dominant form for the first time since returning from last year’s season-ending right elbow surgery and Acuña homered for the seventh time since returning three weeks ago after his own year-long absence.

But Strider's career arc faced a serious obstacle when he suffered an elbow injury last season, forcing him to undergo internal-brace surgery — not to be confused with Tommy John, which he already had in college. Strider is back this season, and thus far, he has looked like a shell of the Cy Young Award candidate we watched in 2023.
