Heavy snow is expected to blanket large portions of the Eastern U.S. while much of the country will endure dangerously cold temperatures in the coming days.

Snow is increasing in intensity around the Lehigh Valley on Sunday afternoon, with the worst of a winter storm still to come, according to forecasters. Just after 2:30 p.m., a band of heavy snow started overspreading the area.

EST a winter storm warning was issued by the National Weather Service in effect until Monday at 4 p.m. EST for Antrim County.

The heaviest snow was expected to fall in New Jersey between 4 and 9 p.m. Sunday, with totals of up to 8 inches.

The 22News Storm Team has issued a Weather Alert for accumulating snow late Sunday afternoon and Sunday night.

Storm Warning is in effect until Monday morning. Heavy, wet snow will move in, with the heaviest snowfall between 7 P.M. and 4 A.M., and lightning possible around daybreak Monday. Higher elevations could see over 8 inches of snow,

The National Weather Service issued an updated winter storm warning at 1:53 p.m. on Sunday in effect until Monday at 7 a.m. for Berkshire County.

The National Weather Service has issued a rare Winter Storm Warning for the local area from 12 AM Tuesday to 12 AM Wednesday. A First Alert Weather Day has been declared for Tuesday. A significant snow event is forecast to take place across South Louisiana and Southwest Mississippi beginning predawn Tuesday morning until Tuesday evening.

Clouds quickly thicken today and we are expecting our first significant snow of the season to start early this afternoon. At this point, it looks like 4-8 inches is the total amount of powder most of the state will get.
