Tire manufacturer Bridgestone Americas is closing its LaVergne, Tennessee, truck and bus radial tire plant and laying off 700 workers there, the company announced in a news release. Bridgestone explained it increasingly needs to optimize and manage costs, and therefore decided to close the LaVergne TBR Tire Plant. The closure will impact approximately 700 hourly and staff employees. The LaVergne Tire Plant in Tennessee began manufacturing TBR tires in 1972.

In July, Bridgestone laid off more than 200 workers from the same location, citing demand headwinds among tractor makers, according to Iowa WARN notices. The tire giant is a recognized supplier to Deere and CNH, among others. About 875 people work at the Des Moines plant, the Des Moines Register reported.
