The Atlanta Falcons have continued to reshape their staff of defensive coaches by naming Mike Rutenberg as defensive pass game coordinator and Nate Ollie as defensive line coach.

The Atlanta Falcons have hired former New York Jets defensive coordinator and interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich as their defensive coordinator, the team announced Saturday night. The Falcons interviewed seven candidates for the job, but Ulbrich always was considered the favorite because of his relationship with Falcons head coach Raheem Morris.

The Atlanta Falcons are hiring Ulbrich as their new defensive coordinator, NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero reported, per sources informed of the situation. The team announced the hire shortly after the report.

The Falcons fired defensive coordinator Jimmy Lake and defensive line coach Jay Rodgers after an underwhelming season in Atlanta. The defense finished 23rd in points allowed and 23rd in total yards, while ranking 31st in total sacks last season.

HOUSTON – The Atlanta Falcons officially hired Nate Ollie as their new defensive line coach, hiring him away from the Texans’ coaching staff. Ollie was hired last season as the Texans’ assistant defensive line coach. The Texans set a franchise record for sacks this season in the first season of Rod Wright as head defensive line coach.

The Falcons have brought Jeff Ulbrich back to Atlanta, naming their former assistant as defensive coordinator.
