Indian authorities have started handing over remains of the victims of one of India’s worst aviation disasters after identifying some through DNA tests.

Air India flight AI171, a Boeing 787-8 carrying 242 people, crashed after taking off from Ahmedabad on its way to London.

The family of three Britons who died in the Air India plane crash are calling on the UK government to provide more support in India. Akeel Nanabawa, Hannaa Vorajee and Sara Nanabawa, aged four, were returning home to Gloucester when their plane ploughed into a residential area in Ahmedabad on Thursday.

On June 12, as news emerged that an Air India flight bound for London crashed shortly after takeoff in Ahmedabad, India, a video ( archived) circulated online claiming to authentically show the final moments before the crash from inside the cabin.

A Delhi-bound Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner flight has been forced to turn back on Monday after the aircraft’s pilot said the jet was facing technical issues mid-air. The Air India flight, AI 315, was operating from Hong Kong to Delhi and had departed from the Asian city at 11.59am local time for its scheduled destination in New Delhi.

A plume of thick black smoke was seen at the crash of Flight AI171, which was destined for London Gatwick Airport.

Air India has faced numerous deadly incidents, including the recent crash of flight 171, which killed 241, and past tragedies like the 1985 bombing and 2020 crash.

The technical investigation into the crash of Air India’s Boeing 787-8 aircraft operating flight AI-171 from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick is being conducted by the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB).
