According to Detroit police, a 6-year-old boy and an 8-year-old boy were fighting on Delaware Street, not far from the Lodge Freeway, around 6 p.m. A 14-year-old and 13-year-old then got involved as they tried to break it up.

Police say a fight between children escalated to a 16-year-old shooting a 14-year-old in the head Thursday in Detroit. The shooter's mother was also struck by gunfire as she tried to break up the fight.

A 16-year-old shot another teenager in the head and also shot his mother in the arm in Detroit during a dispute between younger kids Thursday evening, police said.
