Canada's main opposition leader Pierre Poilievre lost his seat in Monday's general election, results from Elections Canada showed, as the Conservatives were beaten by the incumbent Liberal Party.

Conservative Party leader Pierre Poilievre lost his seat in the Canadian parliament, yielding to Liberal Party candidate Bruce Fanjoy in his Ottawa constituency, according to preliminary results announced on Tuesday.

The Liberals are projected to win more of Parliament’s 343 seats than the Conservatives, though it wasn’t clear yet if they would win an outright majority, which would allow them to pass legislation without needing help.
