The father of a 4-year-old is being hailed as a hero for getting his child away from a cougar attack on a popular trail in Olympic National Park in Washington state.

Rangers searched for the cougar immediately after the attack and were later joined by a canine team, the National Park Service said in a statement.

The 4-year-old child, who was treated at a hospital and released, had been walking with family members on a popular trail in the park.
