A Republican House member introduced a resolution to amend the U.S. Constitution to allow President Donald Trump — and any other future president — to be elected to serve a third term. Rep. Andy Ogles of Tennessee introduced the measure days after Trump was sworn in for a second nonconsecutive term in the White House.

The U.S. Constitution's 22nd Amendment was ratified in 1951 and does not allow a president to be elected more than twice

The proposed amendment allows for the election of a President up to three times but excludes those who served two consecutive terms. It must pass a two-thirds vote in Congress and be ratified by three-fourths of states.
