Tesco, Aldi and Lidl call for rethink of inheritance levy announced in Budget

Rachel Reeves’s tax raid on farmers is putting Britain’s food security at risk and must be paused, Tesco has warned.

Tesco is the latest supermarket giant to hit out at Chancellor Rachel Reeves over the farm tax. The supermarket giant called for Ms Reeves to rethink the introduction of inheritance tax on farms worth more than £1 million to safeguard British agriculture.

Supermarkets Lidl, Tesco and Aldi have added their names to calls for a consultation over the government’s reforms to inheritance tax, citing concerns the changes would dent farmer confidence and choke off investment.

Supermarket giants have called on the Chancellor to U-turn on her inheritance tax plans which could threaten the UK's "food security".
