Elio also appears likeable, despite his quirks and pre-teen rebellion. The world-building is solid, with the Communiverse growing on you as the film progresses. But all that is largely on the surface.

Elio is one of Pixar’s best stand-alone films in a long time — in fact, if it wasn’t for Coco, I’d be quite confident in saying it’s the best since Up back in 2009.

At least he’s honest. Elio is an unknown entity for the studio and indeed for 2025’s cinema goers. Fittingly, the film tackles the most unknown entities of all: outer space and life beyond Earth.

Elio's adventures do eventually bring him to the final frontier to meet and befriend all sorts of new creatures. The voice cast is stellar.
