Bald eagles are finally getting the formal recognition most people probably already thought they had. Plus, a Paris Hilton-backed bill becomes law.

U.S. President Joe Biden signed 50 bills into law on Tuesday, including one that makes the bald eagle the country's official bird and one that stops members of Congress from collecting their pensions if convicted of certain crimes.

The bill also increases the income eligibility threshold for the basic needs allowance to 200% of federal poverty guidelines.

President Biden celebrated the holidays with a bill-signing blitz on Christmas Eve. The 50 measures becoming law include the "Stop Institutional Child Abuse Act," championed by Paris Hilton, the "Stop Campus Hazing Act" and a law prohibiting Congress members from receiving retirement payments if they are convicted of certain crimes.

President Biden spent Christmas Eve signing new bills into law approving everything from the country’s official bird to protections for children in youth care facilities.
