Konark Sun Temple is a 13th-century CE Hindu Sun temple at Konark about 35 kilometres (22 mi) northeast from Puri city on the coastline in Puri district, Odisha, India. [1][2] The temple is attributed to king Narasingha Deva I of the Eastern Ganga dynasty about 1250 CE. [3][4]
It is one of the most famous Brahman sanctuaries of 13th century. The temple is also known as ‘Black Pagoda’ due to its dark color and the ancient sailors of Odisha used it as a navigational landmark. This temple has been declared as a World heritage site by United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in 1984.
